Our corporate division, which overlaps with our tax division, helps clients buy and sell businesses and other major assets, as well as implement transactional corporate programs such as pensions and employee stock option plans (ESOPs). The corporate team has a strong background in both contracts and franchises, representing both franchisees as well as franchisors, and has CPAs on staff to assist with FTC-required franchise audits.
John Butler, the head of both our corporate and tax sections, holds a Louisiana law license and a tax specialist license from the United States Tax Court. John has represented clients buying, selling and gifting their businesses, and handled his first major franchise case in 2011. John routinely represents partners in disputes with other partners or those starting a new business. John manages a team that includes both attorneys and CPAs, and his team can practice in all Louisiana courts, the US Tax Court and the franchise arm of the Federal Trade Commission.
